The Layers of a Cuban Cigar
A cigar is a coveted item among smokers and it is considered to be an item of pleasure, relaxation and representative of wealth. Smoking a Cuban cigar for the average person is a privilege that is to be enjoyed when there is an occasion to celebrate. Although a cigar is a popular item among smokers, it is not necessary that every cigar smoker knows about how a cigar is divided into different parts and how to classify them. The main reason for such ignorance is that it is not considered to be of any use to a smoker to know about the facts, but the truth is that it could be able to help you select the best cigars among the lot.
The wrapper of a cigar is made from tobacco; in fact it is the outermost layer of tobacco leaves found on a cigar. It is important that one takes a good look at this wrapper as it helps to determine whether or not the cigar is a quality single. The color of the wrapper can be very light, very deep or anything in between depending on the type and variety of tobacco leaves used to make the wrapper. In general, the wrappers are made from the best quality of tobacco among the three layers of leaves that are used to make a cigar as it is the wrapper which is largely responsible for the flavor of the cigar.
Next in discussion comes the central layer of a cigar, which contains the binders. The purpose of the binders is to hold the fillers of the cigar in their place. The fillers are made up of tobacco leaves in the quality cigars but inferior quality cigars like those found in drug stores may contain paper fillers. The middle layer binders are also called ‘intermediate leaves’ by smokers.
The fillers constitute the core of the cigar and as mentioned earlier, they are made up of high quality tobacco leaves as well. The tobacco leaves used as fillers are not the same as the wrapper though. Filler can be of two variations in size, either they are short pieces of tobacco leaves shredded to constitute the core, or they are long whole leaves used to fill the core of the cigar.
These are the three layers that constitute a Cuban cigar, and depending on how well the blend is and what quality of tobacco leaves are used, the cigar attains it s flavor, texture and aroma.
